Psychedelia Visualization Pack for WMP

August 31st, 2007 by Max

Correct me if I’m wrong but I think it’s been at least two Windows releases since any new or updated Windows Media Player visualizations. Sure, what comes in the box are still visualizations by definition, but I couldn’t consider any of them eye-candy. Recently, a new visualization pack made by two Microsoft employees in their spare time is worth checking out.

Stephen Coy, the designer of the Windows Vista screensavers and Tim Cowley, a software engineer on the Office team have come together to release a visualizations pack for Windows Media Player called “Psychedelia” two years in the making. But don’t worry, no LSD drugs involved.

Who Need A OS? “No Buddy”

August 29th, 2007 by Max

I got my hands on an early build of the Web operating system Jooce this week. I find this class of product interesting, but I’ve yet to see one that’s really compelling.

The concept is elemental Webware: Web OSes, at least in theory, put all the heavy lifting an operating system usually does on a server somewhere on the Net, while the interface gets funneled through a browser. With a Web OS, you don’t need to worry about any additional software or storage on your local computer. This means any browser-equipped machine can become your personal machine with a simple log-in. And since all of your data is stored centrally, it’s also generally easier to share and collaborate with others

Netgear intros SPH200W WiFi phone with Skype

August 26th, 2007 by Max

If you can reach back into the archives of your brain, you may be able to recall an elusive Netgear WiFi Skype phone that was previewed in May. Unless our eyes are seriously deceiving us, that very handset has now been launched, and it’s been titled the SPH200W. Sporting 802.11b/g compatibility, around four hours of talk time (or 48 hours in standby), WEP / WPA / WPA2 support, and most importantly, the ability to take and make Skype calls wherever there’s an open WiFi signal, this device also allows you to manage up to 500 contacts and touts a built-in speakerphone. Unfortunately, there’s no word on how much this unit will cost you just yet, but feel free to indulge in a few extra photos waiting after the jump.

Windows Live on S60 devices

August 23rd, 2007 by Max

Microsoft and Nokia are set to announce a new agreement that brings Windows Live services to Nokia S60 devices. From today, customers in 11 countries will be able to download the new Windows Live suite, giving access to Windows Live Hotmail, Messenger, Contacts and Spaces. This extends the agreement made last year whereby Live Search was to be provided as a free download for Nokia S60 handsets. New S40 devices that will be available next year will most likely have these applications pre-installed, or at the very least be able to download them too.

Windows Live Messenger for S60 has been floating around in a beta form for a few months now, and from what we’ve seen, users are impressed with the functionality. While the new Hotmail client doesn’t feature the push email capabilities of its Windows Mobile 6 counterpart, it does allow photos and videos taken by a camera to be attached to emails. The Messenger client allows the user to set a display pictures and change status at login, as well as sending photos and voiceclips to contacts through file transfer. Check out the screenshots below to see how it looks

Skype Blames Microsoft for Outage

August 21st, 2007 by Max

When i was Checking Skype blog, In a post on the blog Villu Arak explains that the outage which basically decimated the Skype network for two days, preventing people from login in, was because of reboots from Windows Update delivered patches.

The disruption was triggered by a massive restart of our users’ computers across the globe within a very short timeframe as they re-booted after receiving a routine set of patches through Windows Update.

Microsoft has had a Patch Tuesday every month for years, and no one has ever seen this. How could it all the sudden start affecting Skype users? Don’t the same people all run patches every month already? This seems really fishy to me.  This one is squarely on Skype for lack of testing and planning.  They, I am sure, have to be very familiar with Microsoft monthly updates..this isn’t anything new and it hasn’t crashed there network before…so this has to have exposed a serious flaw in the system. Blaming Microsoft in this instance is a bunch of crap.

Skype down allday (16/08/2007)

August 16th, 2007 by nishan

Skype leading VOIP program seems having problem today. I have noticed most of the time service is not available. It is a really shame so many users disappointed.

skype has published short notice saying

“UPDATED 14:02 GMT: Some of you may be having problems logging into Skype. Our engineering team has determined that it’s a software issue. We expect this to be resolved within 12 to 24 hours. Meanwhile, you can simply leave your Skype client running and as soon as the issue is resolved, you will be logged in. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Additionally, downloads of Skype have been temporarily disabled. We will make downloads available again as quickly as possible.”

I am using skype most of the time and use skype out as well so no service for me. Hope it will be up and running soon.
